Pack Trips

"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts." ~ Rachel Carson

At Adventures Outfitting, we believe the Rocky Mountain backcountry is a special place. In order to experience the true natural splendor, amazing vistas and scenic lakes of the Rocky Mountains you've got to leave the road behind.  Join us for a trip you'll remember the rest of your life!

During the summer months, we conduct multi-day horse pack trips into the backcountry of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness and Yellowstone National Park.  Traveling by horse allows us to reach parts of the backcountry that are seldom seen by others.  Even if you've never ridden a horse before, our calm, gentle riding animals will provide you an effortless journey to our backcountry camp locations.

Depending upon your group's interests, we can design a custom trip for you.  If you like to fish, we can take you to seldom disturbed backcountry lakes.   Horseback day trips from our basecamp are another popular pastime.  Photographers will revel in the picture perfect scenery.  If you enjoy hiking, there are plenty of scenic ridges that will provide an exhilarating climb rewarded with fabulous vistas.  Of course, you can also just relax and absorb the breathtaking splendor and peaceful surroundings.

Although we'll be "roughing it", you won't be suffering!   Adventures Outfitting will take care of all the details.  All you need to bring are your personal items and sleeping bag.  Accommodations are in tent camps.  Our trips feature hearty, home-style breakfasts and dinners.  Sack lunches are enjoyed while we're out and about on the day's activities.  Of course, there will be s'mores to be enjoyed by the evening campfire.

To understand what it's like to be our guest on a pack trip, please visit our Virtual Pack Trip.   Here's an overview of our typical pack trip:

Day 1
We meet at the trailhead.  Our guides will introduce you to your horse and load the pack animals.  Depending upon the camp location chosen we will ride between 2 and 4 hours to reach our campsite.  During the ride we will stop for a sack lunch.   Once at camp, our guides will unload the pack string and prepare camp.  Every evening, a hearty meal will be prepared over the campfire.  We will end our days relaxing around the campfire swapping stories and marveling at the millions of stars in the clear, untarnished sky of the high country.
Subsequent Days
A home-style breakfast with cowboy coffee will be served.  You'll have free time to fish, hike, ride, nature watch or just relax.   Sack lunches will be prepared for those folks on the go.   Dinner will be prepared over the campfire.  On longer trips we may choose to move camp periodically.   On these days, we will get up and have an early breakfast.   Our guides will break camp and load the pack string.  We'll eat a sack lunch on the trail and will arrive at our next camp location by mid-afternoon.
Departure Day
We'll get up and have breakfast early.  Our guides will tear down camp and load the pack string.  We will stop on the trail for lunch and should arrive back at the trailhead before mid-afternoon.

Adventures Outfitting has been featured in Cowboys and Indians Magazine for our interpretive adventure trip, Riding with the Wolves.

Check out our Photo Gallery for pictures from some of the trips we completed last summer.
